KEY BENEFITS: High Water Use Efficiency, Ideal For Dry Conditions, Extremely Vegetative, High Tonnage
Combination of forage sorghum & sudangrass
Warm-season plants grow relatively slowly during the first four to five weeks after seeding due to the biological taxing process of cell division. Once the cell divisions are complete, C4 plants can grow quite rapidly. The optimum daytime temperature for growth is 30+ Celcius. C4 plants are more water-efficient and drought-tolerant than C3 plants. C4s have a waxy leaf surface that reduces water evaporation from the leaf surface. Source: Government of Saskatchewa
Robust root system which can accumulate large amounts of biomass in dry and hot conditions
Palatable winter feed source
Prussic acid concerns when the plant is under stress (killing frost)
Photoperiod sensitive
Good prevent plant option due to this plants ability to accumulate bio-mass and feed soil biology
