About Me

Upon graduating from the University of Manitoba in 2011 with a degree in Agriculture, I stumbled around the industry for quite some time searching for my passion. I spent time with Bayer CropScience, Cargill, and Richardson Pioneer in all different capacities (grain merchandising, agronomy, retail sales, & research). It wasn’t until I joined Taurus Ag that “challenging the status quo” was a requirement for the job. It was during my time there, representing A&L Soil Labs that I found a passion for soil. Helping farmers understand concepts around pH, unavailable nutrients, cation exchange capacity, base saturation, & uptake/removal rates gave me an immense purpose in my work.

Since then, I’ve recently moved back to the beautiful town of Clearwater, Mb and started a family (added a chocolate lab named Piper) In my free time I enjoy mountain biking, hockey, kayaking, live music, nature walks in the valley & travelling as much as possible.

Why Did I Choose Covers?

Although I had many “paradigm shifts” on my soil health journey, there is one that stands out the most. It came when a good friend of mine, Joe Gardiner, asked me to come out to his farm and pull a composite soil analysis on a marginal piece of land. His plan? Grow a multi-species full season cover crop with no fertility added. From a soil chemistry perspective - I told him he was crazy for not addressing some glaringly obvious soil chemistry imbalances.

I chose Covers & Co. because of what I saw grow in that field that summer.

Being part of this farmer revolution, united by common ground (the soil) has been one of the most empowering things I’ve experienced in my life. Covers & Co. wouldn’t be where it is today without farmers leading the movement - believing there is a different approach to the conventional model of high-input agriculture.

“Putting a small group together, all believing in the same thing, all going in one direction - you can't believe what you can accomplish with that.”
