Growing up on a beef cattle farm in the Clearwater/Crystal City community, I developed a deep appreciation for agriculture and land stewardship at an early age. My family’s long-standing involvement in the beef cattle industry played a major role in shaping my interest in farming, soil health, and sustainable land management. From a young age, I was exposed to the importance of caring for the land while maintaining productive livestock systems.
I am currently enrolled at the University of Manitoba and will graduate in Spring 2026 with a Diploma in Agriculture. Through my education and hands-on experience, I have developed a strong interest in soil fertility, regenerative agriculture, and the use of multi-species cover crops to improve soil function. In 2024, I joined the Covers & Co. team and had the opportunity to help construct the replica “Field of Dreams” baseball diamond, a project that raised funds for a local charity, while demonstrating the benefits of a corn and soybean intercrop. This project highlighted how innovative agronomic practices can be combined with community-focused initiatives. I look forward to bringing what I’ve learned back to my family farm and applying these practices through my work with Covers & Co.
I first joined Covers & Co. in 2024 as a summer student shortly after graduating high school, and it quickly became a valuable learning experience. I became involved in projects focused on cover cropping, intercropping, and improving soil health across a variety of farm operations. Through hands-on experience, I was able to see how practical, innovative management strategies can be successfully implemented in real-world settings. The opportunity to work directly with producers helped deepen my understanding of the challenges and opportunities within modern agriculture. Covers & Co.’s focus on practical, producer-driven solutions aligns closely with my own values and interest in regenerative agriculture, and I appreciate the emphasis on education, innovation, and long-term soil health. Working alongside a knowledgeable and passionate team has further strengthened my interest in this field. I am grateful for the opportunity to support farmers across Manitoba as they work toward healthier soils, more resilient operations, and sustainable production systems.
